The piano concertos give a clear idea of\u00a0these performances. At the same time, they are prime examples of Beethoven\u2019s ability to create large\u00a0orchestral works with seemingly endless arcs of tension.<\/p>\n<div class=\"hide-additional-content\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"additional-content\">\n<p>The complete recording of all five works with Mitsuko Uchida and Sir Simon Rattle was one of the most\u00a0spectacular projects of the Berliner Philharmoniker during the Rattle era \u2013 and at the same time the highlight\u00a0of the collaboration between the orchestra and the pianist, which began in 1984.<br \/>\nThe performances were given a rapturous reception in the auditorium and in the press \u2013 as one critic wrote,\u00a0the audience was overwhelmed by a \u201ccollective sense of happiness\u201d. With vibrant freshness, the\u00a0performances brought the whole combative energy of these works to life.
